Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) like Nova Credit Union, are community financial institutions (cooperatives) dedicated to providing financial services to meet the needs of economically disadvantaged individuals in under-served communities. CDFIs are certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In order to become a certified CDFI, the financial institution must have a primary mission of promoting community development; provide financial products and services; serve one or more defined low income target markets; maintain accountability to the community it serves; and be a legal non-governmental entity.

Nova Credit Union partners with local non-profit programs providing financial education classes to adults and sponsors the Banzai Financial Education Online Portal for public schools and their students in Cabarrus County.

As a Financial Cooperative, we believe in giving back, not only to our members, but to our community! Nova CU helps our local communities in a variety of ways, from supporting the NALC Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive, to co-coordinating Operation CU Troop for our service men and women overseas, raising awareness about Epilepsy, raising funds for Camp Victory Junction, Volunteering after hours at the Ronald McDonald House and providing a free Financial Education program, Banzai, to local schools.

Financial Education

Nova CU partners with Banzai, a financial literacy program designed for teachers and students, to provide free financial education programs in our community's schools. Designed as an online portal — teachers can use the flexibility provided to fit financial education within their lesson plans. Nova CU recognized nationally for member service!

Nova CU, which offers several valuable, innovative financial products to its membership, achieved first place among national peers for its Credit Score Analysis (CSA) program.

This CSA program educates members, one-on-one, on how to understand and raise their credit score in order to become more financially successful. The CSA program is free to any Nova CU member and we also offer financial workshops for free!

Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award

Nova CU was awarded the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award March 2015 in Washington DC at the National Credit Union Conference.

Epilepsy is a neurological condition which affects the nervous system. Epilepsy is also known as a seizure disorder. It is usually diagnosed after a person has had at least two seizures that were not caused by some known medical condition.

Seizures seen in epilepsy are caused by disturbances in the electrical activity of the brain. The seizures in epilepsy may be related to a brain injury or a family tendency, but most of the time the cause is unknown.

One of our first community events as Nova Credit Union was our sponsorship of the Kannapolis Fire & Safety Bowl. 14 local elementary school kids had teams competing in March 2017.
